The Secret to Making the Best Coffee is in the Bean

One thing is for sure, what one person deems a great cup of coffee is the same thing that makes other coffee drinkers turn their mugs over. While there is no one great coffee, there certainly is a way to make sure that you are getting the best coffee bean for you. While tastes may vary, there are some things that are common in all great cups of coffee.

The first thing you must invest in is a coffee grinder. Forget about buying the coffee that comes already ground as you are cheating yourself out of the true flavor of the bean. The coffee just loses too much flavor after it has been ground and then sits for God only knows how long.

You also want to make sure that you are buying beans that come in a vacuum sealed bag or container and that you also have a foodsaver at home. This is because a lot of the flavor of the coffee comes from the oils in the bean and when they are exposed to air, they begin to break down. Once you crack the seal, make sure you preserve them with your foodsaver in an air tight container.

For the most part, Arabica coffee beans are the way to go. This is what you will more than likely be drinking at your favorite coffee shop and also at places like Starbucks. If you are drinking coffee at a store that is not known specifically for coffee and often turn your nose up at it, they are probably brewing with Robusta beans.

The reason we suggest that you stay away from the Robusta bean is because it is very bitter tasting. At one time, this was very popular because of the larger amount of caffeine that it holds, but you no longer need to deal with the lack of flavor to get that jolt. There are still some Italian specialty shops that will use this exclusively, but they are few and far between.

The final consideration is not a must, but something to look for none the less. If you have the ability to get coffee beans as they are coming out of the roaster, take advantage of it. There is no better bean than one that immediately comes out of the roaster, gets sealed in the bag and then goes home with you. Getting them that fresh will definitely make a difference.

While we cannot necessarily recommend a bean to you, we can recommend how you go about finding your beans. If you follow these tips, you are sure to have a better cup of coffee than you have ever had. You may find that there is no longer the need to spend all of that money at the coffee shops because you now have the best coffee in the neighborhood.
